Murri Watch:
The First 30 years
In late 2020 I was commissioned to research and write a book for Brisbane based Murri Watch – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation.
Murri Watch: the first 30 years was published in September 2021.
Testimonial
Dr Linda Wells was engaged to research, write and produce the Murri Watch Corporation 30 year history. Linda travelled to Brisbane and accommodated herself for several weeks. Her research in locating past members and leaders, searching the archives and Queensland library uncovered things that could have been easily forgotten. Literature, photos, people, press articles Linda ferreted out. Her research was impressive!
The end product was launched at the 30 Year celebration in 2021 via a video recording provided by Linda to a very large audience and copies were snapped up by most. I believe over 100 books were sold on the night.
An easy read with many photos from over the years. Linda Wells produced an accurate and engaging story book of the 30 year history of Murri Watch Corporation.

The tin can school of a remote Aboriginal community in outback Central Australia; the earthy, stoic people of the desert; a young, bold adventurous woman from the south set free amidst it all.
What could possibly go wrong? With humour and warmth, Linda Wells captures the joy, the wonder and the hardships of life as a schoolteacher at Mount Allan community. She then describes the complexities of a cross-cultural desert relationship, complete with the good times and the bad, including alcoholism, domestic violence and co-dependency. They are all brought to life in this brave and heartfelt memoir.
Kultitja: memoir of an outback schoolteacher is an honest and poetic account of a young woman from suburban Melbourne who went to see what she could find amid the desert and the desert people in the centre of Australia and came face to face with herself.

Kultitja
Still a Town Like Alice is a special project of the Alice Springs Town Council. As well as relating the history, it provides an entertaining snapshot of life in the town between 1986 and 2008; following the council's first written history which covered the period to 1986.
Written by long term resident Linda Wells, the book is based on research and interviews with people from many walks of life in Alice Springs. It reflects Alice's connections to the rest of the world and also captures the unmistakable flavour that has made her a town of her own; a town like Alice.
